My passion for photography began at the age of 11, when I was given my first camera, a Polaroid, and my father introduced me to the principles of aperture, shutter speed and film speed with his Canon EX EE 35mm SLR. Since then, photography has been a constant in my life, combining my love of creativity, technology and the challenge of capturing something special through a lens.
I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer with a particular interest in portrait, wildlife, still life, macro, landscape and street photography. I enjoy exploring the relationship between light, texture, colour and composition, and how relatively simple subjects can be transformed into compelling images through careful observation and lighting.
My background is in business and marketing, and since retiring I have been able to devote considerably more time to developing my photographic skills. I particularly enjoy the technical side of photography, from experimenting with lighting arrangements and camera techniques to exploring the creative possibilities of post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.
I currently shoot with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II, continuing a tradition that began with my father's Canon EX EE all those years ago. Shooting Canon has always been a way of preserving that early connection with him. I enjoy both the precision of digital photography and the fascinating process of restoring and digitising old family negatives, transparencies and glass plates, some dating back nearly 95 years.
For me, photography is a continually evolving journey. There is always another technique to master, another lighting problem to solve and, hopefully, another photograph worth creating.
